Tutoring Services Move Online, Continue Meeting Student Needs

With remote learning in place for the remainder of spring semester, student resources, such as tutoring, are putting contingency plans in place to ensure students are successful.

Online tutoring began last week following spring break and a temporary week-long suspension of face-to-face classes due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Students can register for sessions now by clicking here or by emailing tutoring@daltonstate.edu to schedule appointments.

Dalton State has an extensive tutoring program designed to give academic support to students in a variety of subjects. Tutoring coordinator Brooklyn Herrera said keeping these options open to students while moving to remote learning is crucial. Through online services, students will still be able to receive tutoring sessions from peer educators.

Online tutoring is a powerful resource for students to use as they adjust to remote learning. These new programs will be available not only for students already enrolled in tutoring services but for any students in need of academic assistance during this transition.

Along with already established tutoring programs, sessions will be offered that will focus on time management skills, studying habits and learning to help students adjust to remote instruction.

“These appointments will be extremely useful for students adjusting to a rapid, new schedule as it will offer dedicated time to engage with the course material while still connecting with peers,” Herrera said.

These online sessions will take place using the management software WcOnline, which will allow students to easily join or start tutoring sessions with just the click of a button. Video tools, chat boxes, virtual whiteboards, drawing tools and even uploaded attachments can all be used during these sessions to make it as close to in-person tutoring as possible.

Any questions students have regarding online tutoring can be answered by emailing tutoring@daltonstate.edu
